The Los Castaños Neighborhood is made up of 84 buildings, built between 1927 and 1930 in order to provide housing for police officers. It was designed by the architect Luciano Kulczewski, implementing the “Garden City” model. Kulczewski expressed an eclectic style in his design and gave each house a unique identity, either by inscribing his signature on the facades or with ornamental elements in the shapes of plants and animals. The house on Avenida Francia, located at number 1442, is one of the most distinctive in the complex.
The Los Castaños Neighborhood was declared a Heritage Area under Decree Nº 285 in 1996 and the Casa de Avenida Francia was declared a Historical Monument on October 3, 1996, under Supreme Decree Nº 555.
